The City of Dallas Public Art Collection numbers over 300 individual works of art and features pieces by world-renowned artists, including many Dallas area artists, some of whom have achieved international recognition. All have made a significant contribution to the vibrant culture of Dallas.
The Love Field Art Collection at Dallas Love Field Airport is part of the City’s Public Art Collection and features 12 new commissions and 5 previous installations. The artwork in the Collection celebrates themes related to love, flight, the environment of North Texas and the history of Dallas Love Field Airport. Well-Known Public Art Projects in Dallas
• Dallas Confederate Monuments
• The red neon Pegasus on the rooftop of the Magnolia Hotel in downtown Dallas is widely recognized as a symbol of the City.
• Pioneer Plaza contains three cowboys and 49 steers in a park setting including a stream and pond.
• Fair Park is home to many well-known works of public art, but the Crystal Chandelier at the Music Hall, by artist William Martin is often cited as a favorite.
• Dallas City Hall Plaza boasts the large bronze sculpture The Dallas Piece by renowned British sculptor Henry Moore. It was given to the City in 1978 by W.R. Hawn in memory of his wife.
• The City Hall reflecting pool displays the beloved Floating Sculptures by internationally known artist Marta Pan.
• Lightstream by Ed Carpenter, is a contemporary installation that uses technology as a medium and was installed in the Dallas Convention Center in 2003.
• Freedman’s Memorial honors the burial location of freed slaves and was completed in 1999 by Dallas artist David Newton.
