The Dallas City Council was briefed on Options for The Confederate Monument on February 6, 2019, and voted on this matter on February 13, 2019. Public Art Committee of the Cultural Affairs Commission
The Public Art Committee of the Cultural Affairs Commission considered the Confederate Monument matter on October 10, 2017. Review and consideration by the full Cultural Affairs Commission followed on October 12, 2017.
The Public Art Committee is a standing committee of the Cultural Affairs Commission, as provided in Dallas City Code sections 2-102 (2), and 2-105 (b), and in the City of Dallas Cultural Policy adopted by Council Resolution No. 02-3206.
Mayor’s Task Force on Confederate Monuments
The Mayor’s Task Force on Confederate Monuments completed its work on September 22, 2017. The final recommendations of the Task Force are published below.
On August 24, 2017, Mayor Michael S. Rawlings appointed a task force to provide recommendations related to the removal and relocation of public Confederate monuments and symbols, and renaming of public places, including parks and streets. The Task Force will also provide recommendations related to the cost and process of disposal or relocation of monuments, suggesting additional standards for the naming of public places, suggesting replacements for Confederate monuments and symbols recommended for removal, and suggesting replacement names for public places.
