The City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture (OAC), formerly known as Office of Cultural Affairs, is seeking qualified applicants for a Cultural Coordinator position in OAC’s Latino Cultural Center division.

 The position’s function is focused on event coordination, delivering outstanding service and cultural programming support duties. The Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing event management of the center’s arts and cultural programs.

Top candidates will possess an ability to coordinate events for the center’s arts and cultural programming based on division mission and goals. They will be familiar with artistic and cultural organizations in Dallas, as well as the needs of working artists and creatives in a variety of genres and forms. They will be innovative and flexible to the changing dynamics and needs of events at the Latino Cultural Center. They will have experience in event management, customer service, and database management. They will understand the need for a flexible work schedule and be available for regular evenings and weekends. Top candidates will also have knowledge and experience with navigating the complexities of governmental agencies.

Essential Functions

  • Day-to-day management of one or more arts and cultural events at the center, from planning to implementing events of varying sizes, reviewing rental/user contracts, monthly reporting, logistical supervision, crowd management, and invoice processing
  • Detailed event coordination and management of program, including but not limited to rental contracts and inquiries, facility walk throughs and other programmatic support
  • Contract monitoring to ensure compliance with agreed upon deliverables
  • Work closely with center manager on implementation/evaluation/maintenance of venue operational policies, safety plans, user guidelines etc.
  • Keep clear records including event files, incident reporting, financial records, etc.
  • Perform related work as required

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified applicants must have a valid driver’s license, and have a good driving record. 

Bachelors degree in the arts, social science or business related and three (3) years relevant experience or:
 
Equivalencies:

  • Associates degree in any related field plus five (5) years of relevant experience or:
  • Eight (8) years of relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal and organizational skills preferred.
  • Ability to speak comfortably in public
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage multiple projects on a tight deadline.
  • Knowledge of Dallas Latinx arts and cultural organizations and artists a plus.
  • Demonstrate ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and to a high standard in a sometimes-hectic work environment.
  • Flexibility – Ability to work regularly on evenings and/or weekends.
  • Ability to work well and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and other departmental staff.
  • Team player who will thrive in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to be resourceful, flexible and adaptable in response to changing situations.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Bilingual – Spanish – oral and written preferred
