WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH 2025

During the month of March, we celebrate women and the contributions and achievements they have made throughout history, culture, arts, and society. The Office of Arts and Culture offers a list of events celebrating strong women all over Dallas, from our cultural centers and our partners!

• • • • Play Like A Girl: Free After School Guitar Lessons 
        • St. Philip’s School and Community Center (1600 Pennsylvania Ave.)
        • Thursdays starting  March 6 – March 27, 2025  from 4- 5 p.m.
        • To celebrate Black History Month and Women’s History Month, we’re offering free after-school guitar classes for girls at St. Philip’s, where they’ll learn to play while exploring music industry inequities and honoring pioneers like Elizabeth Cotten and Memphis Minnie. Sponsored by the Holloway Foundation and Moody Fund for the Arts, this St. Philip’s-exclusive course provides guitars on a first-come, first-served basis, with limited space available.

        • Pencil on Paper Gallery proudly presents 10, a dynamic Women’s History Month exhibition showcasing ten women visual artists working in photography, collage, drawing, and painting. Exploring themes of identity, memory, motherhood, friendships, and the evolving role of women in contemporary art, this exhibition celebrates creativity, resilience, and the power of artistic expression.

        • Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 12 – 1 p.m.
        • Join Skillman Southwestern Branch Library for Lunch and Learn series, where local experts explore topics from history to science. This month, Elizabeth Qualia, Curator for the Sue S. Bancroft Women’s Leadership Hall at Texas Woman’s University, will share an inside look at creating impactful museum exhibits—bring your lunch and learn with us!
          
          
          
      • Sew Much Fun with Jill -DIY Cloth Patches for Women’s History Month

        • Celebrate Women’s History Month with a hands-on DIY workshop where you’ll create custom cloth patches honoring the strength and creativity of women throughout history. Learn basic embroidery techniques and use textile markers, paints, and more to craft a unique tribute—no sewing experience required!
          
      • Block by Block: Women, Quilts, and Family History

        • Throughout American history, women have used quilting to express their beliefs and support social and political causes. This Women’s History Month, join Dallas quilter and lecturer Denise Bartosh to explore women’s quilting history, contribute to a community quilt, and tour the Creative Spaces: Fiber Arts Workroom.

        • The Art in the Style of… program is a monthly workshop series at Oak Lawn Library that explores influential artists through art history discussions and hands-on activities. This March, participants will create a multimedia piece inspired by pop artist Marjorie Strider, known for her bold, colorful depictions of women’s empowerment, using provided materials—an experience proudly sponsored by the Oak Lawn Library Friends.

Expect soulful sounds, inspiring stories, and a community-driven experience that hypes up women’s creativity, hustle, and culture in Dallas!
